Seen on Lombard Street, downtown Baltimore, this morning: A young couple, likely homeless, swaying, addicted, steps off the free circulator (orange route) at Market Street. The guy has long blond hair, and is stocky, dressed in too-warm clothes. The girl's hair is dirty, and she is carrying several worn plastic bags stuffed with clothes. Gently, an unlit cigarette between fingers, he takes her face in his hands. Fall breeze whipping their hair around, they kiss, passionately, deeply, for as long as it takes the light on President Street to go: green, yellow, red, and then back to green.
