So I don't often turn off my cell phone, but today I did, and as the thing shut down, the screen displayed this short animated graphic in which a mess of every-which-way lines and shapes quickly gathers to form a big phone company's famous logo. And I don't care about this company but I do care that somebody, or perhaps several somebodies, created this four-second digital thing, this project, and that they cared enough about it to make it slightly weird, and slightly interesting.
And that four-second phone-thing is just the tip because, you know, we live in rich, rich times. Just now, I was sitting on my new couch, watching a football game broadcast in incredibly bright greens, and I was reading a 30-year-old magazine piece written about the Rolling Stones. The man who wrote this piece is brilliant, and the article is brilliant, and the paper upon which it's printed is as thick and rich as good bread. I'm not saying couches and touchdowns and paper can make you happy, but goddamn. They make for quite a show, don't they? A bright, bright show, full of, deep down, people and people and people.
